Rinse & Repeat

In today’s fast-paced world, many successful, driven adults find themselves grappling with anxiety, self-doubt, and the overwhelming pressure to meet both parenting and professional expectations.

Sometimes life can feel like you’re stuck in the same old rinse & repeat cycle of work and kids, lucky if you get a morsel of alone time to just be.

If you’re noticing feelings of worry or find yourself questioning your accomplishments due to imposter syndrome, you’re not alone.

Adult therapy for parents aims to help you deal with these challenges in a more nuanced way that can actually prioritize your needs.

Does this sound familiar?

Everybody else comes first

As a high achiever, you may feel compelled to please others, sacrificing your own needs in the process. This can lead to burnout and a feeling of inadequacy, despite your numerous successes.

Many thoughtful adults struggle to set boundaries and communicate their needs effectively.  You may find yourself fearing that honest conversations could upset others in your relationships.

This desire to keep the peace can make relationships feel emotionally draining. You may feel a pull to be authentic, while at the same time worried about rocking the boat.

  • Anxiety/Depression

Life feels tense or maybe just blah. It’s hard to get a good night’s sleep. Feeling on edge makes it hard to find balance and satisfaction.

  • Relationships

Relationships can feel complicated when misunderstandings and anxiety creep in, often stemming from the pressure to make everyone happy.

  • Work

The demands of work/school and the relentless pressure to excel can quickly add up, making it feel like you're constantly running on a treadmill that never slows down.

I have helped many parents like you to…

  • understand the root causes of anxiety, people-pleasing, and self-doubt.

  • gain comfort in being truer to themselves in relationships.

  • prioritize their needs in order to feel calmer and more available to others.

  • gain insight into effective parenting, lightening your mental and emotional load

My therapeutic approach focuses on providing a safe, non-judgmental space where you can explore these feelings and uncover the root causes of your anxiety and self-doubt. I use evidence-based, insight-oriented techniques tailored to your unique experiences, empowering you to shift your mindset, set appropriate boundaries, and prioritize self-care.

Frequently asked questions about Adult Therapy for Parents

FAQs

  • A lot of people start therapy unsure where to begin or what to talk about. You can pretty much start anywhere. I am an experienced listener and will be paying close attention to help us land on the important stuff. The technical term for this kind of therapy is psychodynamic. Psychodynamic therapy takes into account not just the anxiety you are experiencing today, but also ways that your past and current relationships may be contributing to what you are experiencing and how you tend to approach problems. However, anxiety therapy almost always involves cognitive and behavioral skills as well. I have extensive experience in CBT and integrate evidence-based strategies into our conversations to get you the best and most long-lasting results.

  • It's hard to know exactly what you're looking for in a therapist. The best way to figure this out is to start seeing a professional, licensed therapist and get a feel for their style and approach. I bring warmth and expert knowledge to my sessions with you so that you feel empowered to talk about the main issues you want to address. At the same time, I will gently challenge you to see things in a new light or try a new strategy that you may not have thought of. I balance insight-oriented strategies with a genuine connection.

  • Adults enter therapy at all different ages. I see adult clients from 18 years, onwards.

  • In most cases, this is not needed. We can address even the most complex parent-child dynamics by focusing on you. We will talk through your thoughts & feelings about your child and address how to best approach the relationship to maximize parent-child bonding while maintaining appropriate boundaries. This combination will improve your connection to your child while also protecting your role as parent.
